Routine ROV sweeps surface large numbers of individually low-priority findings (surface corrosion, biofouling). Without a way to fire conditional rules on combinations of those findings and evaluate them against the live maintenance schedule, the operator's integrity team either over-triages or misses the cases where combined evidence reveals an urgent risk under upcoming dive operations.

Several critical inspection points sat inside dense tooling clusters and on high-speed robotic end-effectors where conventional cameras cannot physically fit. Earlier miniature-camera trials failed thermally, and standard cameras would have put human-interpretable imagery onto the production network in a classified fab.
